Digital capability leadership during a time of flux

How can a global digital capability team reinvent itself?

The Stem was retained by the new Global Head of Digital at a mid-tier pharmaceutical company in the midst of a hiring freeze. We were asked to step in and provide interim strategic and tactical leadership across several work streams each aimed at enhancing the firms’ digital capabilities.

To support this goal, we brought all of our capabilities to bear. In the areas of Strategy and Process, we partnered with the client to design and articulate the new global digital service offering and organization structure.

In the area of Insights & Analytics, we conducted an enterprise capability maturity assessment and developed a new capability strategy, including an updated mission, global service offering and a two-year action plan focused on deepening the company’s cross-channel analytics capability.

We also conducted two in-depth benchmarking and opportunity assessment exercises aimed at helping the client’s Rare Disease business unit strengthen their use of digital media in identifying and supporting their base of rare disease patients.

In the area of Execution support we took over program management responsibility for the delivery of a complex Content Management initiative, overseeing and integrating four different creative and technical and agency partners and developing a strategy for a global rollout.

Overall, we were able to significantly advance our client’s digital transformation agenda during a period of corporate uncertainty and change in the organization.
